Hello World! This is my first blog ever...please be patient - I'm new at this :-).
My first post will pose a question:
If many of our students do not have computers or internet access at home, how can we really integrate all of these wonderful online technologies in the classroom? In Will Richardson's book, "Blogs Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms," Richardson mentions the idea of having a class blog in which the teacher and students can communicate and share ideas as well as post assignments. I have quite a few students who do not have internet access outside of school, and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I would love to use some of these ideas and technologies to not only streamline my classroom operations, but also to foster discussion of the math we're learning (they're too "cool" to talk about math in front of their friends in the classroom...)
I love the name of your blog. :) I believe this is the first one for many of us, so don't be too hard on yourself.
ReplyDeleteMy district has all social networking, including blogs, shut down tight, they cannot be accessed. There's a very difficult-to-navigate forum for our teacher web pages, but its not intuitive or fluid so teachers don't use it. I wish districts would be able to loosen up the blocking a little bit.

ReplyDeleteMy district has the same policies...NO social networking allowed at all during school. Not only that, but we are not allowed to call parents using any accounts (or phones) other than school email and phones. This makes it difficult, since so many students' parents are working when I am at school...
It would be nice to be able to utilize these tools for our students - they offer so much potential!

I am just starting to use blogs, wikis, and other technology tools. Sorry, that I can not help you at this time. I do know that our district blocks certain sites during school hours, like Facebook. However, the students have Mac laptops and on the mail application they are able to instant message each other.
